Despite broken nose, Anthony Joshua knocks out Takam in Round 10

Anthony Joshua technically knocked out Carlos Takam in his fourth world title defence at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff on Saturday.

Takam, the rugged Cameroon-born contender compared to a “block of cement” by Joshua, was stopped by the 28-year old in Round 10.

The unbeaten Joshua suffered a suspected broken nose after a head clash in the second round, but gradually broke down the brave resistance of Takam to bring up his 20th straight knockout win.

The Cameroonian-French only stepped in just with 12 days’ notice to challenge the IBF and WBA ‘super’ heavyweight champion as replacement for Joshua’s mandatory challenger Kubrat Pulev.

Pulev was forced to withdraw through injury but with almost 80,000 tickets sold, the show had to go on.

Joshua allow opened up a huge cut above Takam’s right eye which threatened to end the fight.

The challenger was cleared to continue by the doctor and he went on to put up an impressive challenge – despite being cut over both eyes by the latter stages.

Joshua eventually stopped his game opponent in the 10th round when the referee stepped in – but the decision looked controversial.

Joshua will now target unification clashes against fellow champions Deontay Wilder and Joseph Parker next year.
