Kim Kardashian Hospitalized With Illness Linked To Her Father’s Death

Kim Kardashian has been diagnosed with esophagitis, a condition that causes inflammation and swelling of the esophagus. A trailer for the eighth season of ‘The Kardashians’ reveals that Kim was hospitalized to undergo tests and treatment. Diagnostic tests typically include an endoscopy in which a camera is inserted into the throat.

The significance of the medical scare hit the family hard, as her father, Robert Kardashian, died of esophageal cancer in 2003 at the age of 59. Both Kim and her mother, Kris Jenner, were seen crying in the preview. While esophagitis is relatively common, in some cases, it can lead to Barrett’s esophagus, “in which the normal lining of the esophagus is replaced by one prone to cancer.” 

Since her father’s death, Kim and her family have been working to raise awareness of esophageal cancer and helped open the UCLA Robert G. Kardashian Center for Esophageal Health in his memory.
